An Operating System is the software which communicates with the hardware of a computer system and works as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, web hosting servers also feature an Operating System that serves as a host for the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etcetera. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment compared to the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server packages feature three Linux distributions which you may choose from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being 100 % free, the OSs are extremely stable and protected and the reason to offer the 3 of them is to make sure that you'll be able to run each application that you'd like, as different pieces of software have different requirements when it comes to the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is supported by a vast community of web developers who have produced a large number of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System that you select, you will also be able to choose between three different Control Panels to manage your web hosting content. Needless to say, in case you decide that you need a new OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a larger choice for the system environment on the server as different applications can have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and enjoy a stable and secure web hosting service. Depending on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System if the one you have selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software which you'd like to run. We can also update your OS regularly in order to keep it as secure as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
